I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

I had an

IHHE Moment recently.

My family traveled up to Burlington, NC to teach the Financial Learning Experience. We arrived on Saturday evening and went out to get dinner.

My lovely bride spotted a restaurant that does not exist near our home, so we went there.

It did not go well. It was 8:00 PM, but we had to wait twenty minutes to be seated.

I took one look at the menu, and began to employ my hero, Paul Marshall's method of choosing what to eat. I looked for the cheapest item on the menu and decided it was palatable.

This place sells hamburgers. HAMBURGERS. But not just any hamburger. They sell $10 hamburgers. What a RIP-OFF!

And then I see that the kid's menu has mac-n-cheese for only $4.99.

ONLY $4.99. I can buy AT LEAST twenty BOXES of mac-n-cheese for that amount of money.

I suffered through the experience. And, NO, I did not let my daughter order the ridiculous, outrageous, enormous, cruddy, massively overpriced mac-n-cheese. She had to share my $10 burger.

What a rip-off.

I am really sick of being ripped off by the so-called kid's menus at restaurants.

Who's with me?

Next time look for an Ikea store and head for the cafe ... yummy looking (and moderately healthy) kids combo meals, all for $1.99.

I know what you mean about the prices. My husband and I often share a meal. Nothing wrong with that. You're right about 4.99 for mac & cheese beomg outrageous.

Ten dollar hamburgers and five dollar kid's meals are becoming way too common.

Speaking of expensive mac and cheese, I spotted some pre-made in the convenience food section of Wal-Mart that was $4.59. I can't believe people pay that for about the same amount that the Kraft box makes.

I go one step further and I make mine from scratch. My husband prefers it to the box. Plus, he takes it to work the next day.

When we eat out, we do it on kids eat free nights....Tues its Subway, on Thrusdays, Country Kitchen...Then we use the Pizza Hut book its for the kids also..Other than that, we don't eat out. even when we travel, I've been known to have food that we can prepare in our room, since most now have microwaves and fridgs.

Aleta, I make ours from scratch too. It is a little more expensive, but well worth it!

Macaroni and cheese made from macaroni purchased separately real cheese and what ever else you want in it is very different than the kind that comes in a box with hypersalted, orange, dyed cheese powder. I hope the restaurant was not serving the equivalent to Kraft mac'n'cheese.

I'm going out on a limb here.... you were eating out! As a small business owner, not only do they have to pay for the food, they have to pay for the person who prepares it, pay for the person to serve you, pay to clean up after you... you get the picture.

Hey I hate eating out and we rarey do unless we are traveling. So just try to enjoy the experience and great idea.... look for the cheapest thing on the menu and see if it palatable to you. I like that idea.

PS I make my own mac and cheese too with an egg mixed in, bread crumbs on top and baked for about 20 minutes at 350. Yum!
