Hi. I went to your Next Steps website. I noticed that one way you suggest lowering food expenditures is by using coupons. Great idea, but you state that you have to buy the local newspaper to get them. Well, I don't buy my local newspaper, but I do use coupons. At my work, different people thumb through the coupons from the Sunday paper and cut out whatever they want to use. I cut what I myself want to use and what I know will be useful to other folks I know online. I have a free membership at ThriftyFun.com where I trade coupons with other folks. The only money it costs me is about $.42 to mail an envelope of coupons to someone else. One week, I noticed that Walgreens was having massive sales on stuff I use a lot, so I gathered together my shopping list, manufacturer coupons, and Walgreens coupons and saved over 50% on my purchase that day. The following week I saved around 25% at the same store. My strategy is that I shop at several different stores for different things because some stores don't have the exact product I want or they don't have the best deal.
